Did you know some common hand gestures are offensive in other countries?
The “devil horns” hand sign seen thrown up at rock concerts can be offensive in other countries. In European and South American countries, this hand sign implies that a man’s wife has been unfaithful. The meaning dates back to the etymological meaning of “cuckold” which is “horned” in Italian, Spanish, and Greek.
In my opinion, the meaning they give to certain gestures as simple as this is not correct and even exaggerated. I'm not only referring to the previous gesture but also for example to the so-called "middle finger", also used to insult someone. They are simply fingers that people have given a bad meaning to (starting right away with children) and are now seen as something very offensive, being several times the reason to start a discussion.
