Mais um texto, desta vez de um grupo de alunos do 11ºC sobre festividades culturais, subcategoria "The World Around Us".

           São João

Hello, my name is Afonso,  I am Portuguese and the festivity I chose to talk about was “Dia de São João” .

It's usually celebrated on the 23rd of June, usually at night, but the actual holiday is on the 24th, in the Porto district, downtown, and in traditional neighborhoods to honor São João the Baptist. The most noticeable feature of the festivity is the rubber hammers, which people use to hit each other slightly, while some people use leeks instead. At night we launch some balloons into the air, which are called “balões de São João”. Some traditional food is roasted sardines and caldo verde, usually accompanied with wine. 

I enjoy this festival because the center is usually packed with people and illuminated with bright lights and I spend a lot of time with my family.
