Endangered species - Green Turtle
An endangered species is a type of animal or plant that is in danger of disappearing forever. This means there are only a few of them left in the wild. If we don’t protect them, they might become extinct, which means there will be none left at all.
Protecting green turtles is very important. Some countries have made laws to stop people from hunting them. There are also projects to protect their nests and clean the oceans.
The green turtle is a large sea turtle that lives in warm oceans around the world. It gets its name not from its shell, which is brown or olive, but from the green colour of its body fat. Green turtles can grow up to 1.5 metres long and weigh over 150 kilograms. They eat mainly seagrass and algae, and they help keep the ocean healthy by cleaning the sea plants.
There are many things we can do to help endangered species. One of the most important is to protect their habitats. This means looking after forests, oceans, rivers, and other places where animals and plants live. We should try not to pollute these areas and avoid destroying them. Another way to help is by recycling and creating less waste. Rubbish, especially plastic, can be very dangerous to animals. If we recycle and use less plastic, we help keep the environment safe and clean. It’s also important not to buy products made from endangered animals. Some animals are hunted for their shells, skins, or other body parts. If people stop buying these things, fewer animals will be killed.
