              " He who laughs last, laughs best"

Hey! Surely you've heard the saying "He who laughs last, laughs best", but what does that mean anyway? 

This Portuguese proverb expresses that one should not celebrate or mock those who are at a disadvantage, as someone can reverse the situation and obtain a positive result for themselves and a negative one for those who antagonize them.

Songs and their meanings

I don't know about other people but, for me, the best way to relieve my stress is listening to music. One of my favourite songs to listen to when I'm feeling down is "My Pace" by Stray Kids. This music talks about self-comparison and how it can affect our daily lives. "My Pace" helped me a lot when I was struggling with self-doubts about my capacities. This music made me realize that it doesn't matter if "someone is in front of you", because it doesn't mean that they will get "the 1st place". The only thing that we really need to worry about it's if we are doing the right thing and trying our best to achieve our dreams. Different people have different rhythms, and it's alright!

                               The brain of one of the greatest geniuses of the 20th century is still with us

 

The organ was removed from the body of Albert Einstein (1879-1955) seven hours after his death and is preserved to this day in a solution of ethanol and ethyl alcohol.

Scientists have studied the organ in order to find explanations for Einstein's genius, but to this day nothing extraordinary has been discovered.

I found it quite interesting that the brain of one of the world's best-known people is still preserved.

The Importance of Supporting Non-Governmental Organisations

Non-governmental organizations or NGOs, play a vital role in addressing some of the world's most important issues. These organisations have been focusing on a wide range of issues, such as human rights, environmental protection, poverty reduction and more. They have a long history of making a positive impact in communities around the globe.

As citizens, it is our responsibility to support and engage with NGOs, to ensure that they have the resources they need to continue helping our society. By supporting NGOs, we empower them to make a real difference in the world, creating an equitable future for all. Additionally we can also actively participate in the work of NGOs by volunteering our time and skills, and by spreading awareness of their causes.

An example of a Non-governmental organisation in Portugal is “Banco Alimentar”. They try to eradicate hunger and reduce poverty, by giving away food that would end up in the trash, to people in need. They have been working in Portugal since 1991, having over 20 food banks around the country and helping over 400 000 people. They were the biggest social movement in Portugal after the war.

With that, I believe that NGOs are great for society and should be appreciated for the help they give. Helping them accomplish their goals is a good step into a better future. Did you know that...

- Brazil is the country that has won the most World Cup trophies in the world? The years were 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.

- Brazil has the largest forest in the world, the Amazon rainforest, known as the lungs of the world, approximately 7 million square kilometers.

- Some regions of Brazil are cold and it snows; they are the southern regions.

We were in the middle of the FIFA World Cup and I was watching a video about football curiosities and someone said that this stadium had a peculiarity. 

It is known as "Zerão" due to the fact that the middle of the field coincides with the line of the equator. The word "Zerão" comes from the number "Zero", which is the latitude of the line. 

When I found out I thought that it would be interesting to share with you!

                                                Our city has been classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO

The Historic Centre of Porto is the oldest area of the district, classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1996. 

It gathers the parishes of Sé, Vitória, São Nicolau and Miragaia. With medieval origins, and despite all the changes, the Historic Centre of Porto maintains its unique urban characteristics, incomparable to other cities in Europe...

I decided to share this curiosity because I think it's always good to know a little more about what surrounds us.

Did you know that Brazil is the country with the greatest biodiversity in the world? 

Brazil occupies almost half of South America and is the country with the greatest biodiversity in the world. There are more than 116,000 animal species and more than 46,000 plant species known in the country, spread across six terrestrial biomes and three major marine ecosystems.

                                                                 The Great Wall of Rice

One of China's greatest icons, the Great Wall, has historical, architectural and tourist importance. It is more than 20,000 km long with an average height of 7 meters and a width of 5 meters. The Wall is one of the main tourist attractions in the country, receiving around 50 million visitors.

An interesting fact about the Great Wall was recently discovered. When studying the composition of the mass used in construction, researchers from the University of Zhejiang, in China, noticed something unusual mixed with lime and water: sticky rice. This would be the first composite mortar, which includes organic and inorganic material and was used to fix bricks in construction.

Now, do you understand why you heard “eat all the rice to make yourself strong” when you were a child?

 

I chose this curiosity because I didn't know about it and I found it interesting enough to share with others too.

3 Idioms to use when saying "Goodbye"

. “See you in a jiffy.”: Idiom used to express a short interval until your next meeting.

. “Smell ya later!”: Idiom usually used in a provoking or humorous manner.

. “Catch you later.”: Most commonly used idiom for saying farewells, especially by teenagers.                                                                                                        

Personally, I prefer the idiom "Catch you later" because it is the most casual out of the three above. However, my preferred way to say "Goodbye" is the simple "See you later". In a casual conversation, I like to keep things simple and not leave room for mistakes.

Tocantins is the youngest state in Brazil, founded in 1988.

Feijoada is considered the national dish of Brazil.

                                                                                        Burning Man

The Burning Man festival starts on the last Sunday in August.

Burning Man is a festival that has been held since 1986 in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, in the United States.Burning Man is different from other festivals around the world as people go camping and spend more than 6 days there, living an alternative life, in which nothing is sold or bought, everything is exchanged.

You need to take everything you need to survive during these days: water, food, mattress... The idea of Burning Man is to highlight art, music and creativity.

Throughout the desert there are music stages and sculptures. And at the end, a giant wooden man is set on fire (hence the name), a tradition since the beginning of this festival.

Porto was elected the “best city destination in Europe” in 2022. The distinction took place at the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA), a ceremony that took place this Saturday night (1/Oct), in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). Hello, we are a Portuguese group of friends and we love Senhor de Matosinhos.

Senhor de Matosinhos is a local holiday that falls seven weeks after Easter and it represents the devotion to Bom Jesus de Matosinhos.

What interests us the most is the traditional snacks "pão com chouriço" and "farturas". The amusements that gather a lot of people to have fun and the fair with all sort of things.
