                                          Butterflies perform mimicry to better protect themselves from predators

Originally, it was thought that, like other wild animals that create mimicry, viceroy butterflies “transform” into monarchs for protection against predators. However, viceroys are also naturally toxic, so this mutual mimicry turns out to be beneficial for both butterfly species. These transformations happen from the rings of mimicry. 

In my opinion this shows that animals can protect themselves from predators in several ways. Furthermore, these mimicry rings are important as they show how these animals have evolved over time.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Filipa Braga, 11ºC
