India - Mehendi
A pre-wedding preparation ritual takes place when the bride and groom have their bodies drawn with henna. Hands, feet, ankles, wrists, and the palm of the hand are drawn with flowers, peacocks, and other elements that represent good luck.
The Mehendi is known for its handiwork and the art it symbolizes, and brides are highlighted in this moment, with very elaborate drawings up to their elbows! Grooms also often use art, but in simpler designs and with less emphasis.
