GMOs on or off our plate?

GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are organisms (plants or animals)  whose genetic make up (DNA)has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally.
In the last decades, GMO crops have become more and more prevalent; however this topic is far from being consensual. Although  some people consider that GMOs can help produce more food for the world’s booming population, others claim that they might have a negative impact on the environment and other living organisms. While some scientists think that the use of biotechnologies to produce food is quite safe, others fear that the comsumption of trangenic foods  can have bad effects on human health.
One way or the other, there’s no doubt that strict regulation is necessary. Moreover, food labelling  should be widely required because consumers should have the right to know what they are eating and to decide what they want on or off their plate.
